About Us

When and How
With an intention of Gau Seva and Gau Sanvardhan, Shri Gordhanlalji Agrawal and Shri O.P. Rathi started the Gaushala at Sundarpura Village near Vadodara.
It was inaugurated on 3rd September, 1999 with 5 cows. Leading nature activist of Vadodara, Late Ms. Snehal Bhatt, helped in procurement of these cows.
Later, other Gau Bhakts like Shri Banwarilalji Kyamsaria, Shri H.P. Gupta, Shri Tansukhrai Gaur and many others started joining in for this noble cause.
Purpose
According to our sacred texts and scriptures Cows are considered to be sacred. Still it is ubiquitous that once a cow grows old and stops giving milk, the owners consider them to be a burden and disown them leaving them to die on streets. Many of these reach the butchers ending up to be someone’s delicacy in meal or a branded accessory like a belt or even a bag or wallet.
To provide some eye opening facts, India’s first slaughter house was built in Calcutta in 1760 by the then Governer Robert Clive which had the capacity to kill 30,000 animals per day. By 1910 the number increased to 350 slaughter houses. The most conservative figures show that an average of 200 million animals are slaughtered daily worldwide. The latest trend in delicacies in foreign countries is a dish that is cooked from the meat of a freshly delivered calf. As soon as a calf is born it is killed and flown to meat eating countries where it reaches the table within only a few hours of birth.
These cows are mostly harmless. Such cows when are brought to our gaushala, are many a times suffering from grave diseases or are even injured. All these cows are taken care of, well fed and given medical treatments.

“Even a cow creates ambiguous signifiers. The moo of mystery.”
How did Shri Sai Shyam Gowshala progress? Initially started in Sundarpura and then moved to Dumad ?
On 10/6/2001, the Gaushala along with 40 cows was shifted to a new premise at Ganpatpura , Dumad. The new premise has been blessed by divine presence of Shree Hanumanji Mandir since inception. Gaushala with Hanumanji Mandir is situated on main road connecting Vadodara and Savali, also known as Savali Road. Shri Sai Shyam Gowshala is spread in the area of around 60000 square feet. Every year Hanuman Jayanti Utsav and Janmasthami Utsav are celebrated with great devotion and devotees attend it with full faith and happiness. Some devotees also visit the Gaushala and Hanumanji Mandir on Tuesday and Saturday.
Sants and Mahants like Dutt Sharanandji Maharaj and Rajendra Dasji Maharaj have graced this pious place with their presence. Mr. Atul Purohit, the famous Garba Singer of Vadodara, has recited Sunderkand at the Gaushala.
Pujya Shri Shrikant Maharaj of Kolkata had been vakta of Shrimad Bhagwat which was organized at Gaushala in 2012.
